Chasing Ice
The scene that stood out to me was the first before-and-after image of a glacier. In the documentary film, Chasing Ice, the glacier is shown to have lost about half its size in six months. There was so much change to the glacier that it had become unrecognizable. With this significant amount of change, it had made it clear to me that global warming was the cause of this. The image had also given me a flurry of anger and emotions.
The reason why this image stood out to me is that it made me open my eyes to global warming. Before viewing this documentary film, I would always moan and groan about the topic of global warming. I didn't see any changes around me that stood out or posed a challenge. Sure the weather had changed to the point where it was very noticeable but other than that I didn't care much about global warming. Once taking the time to view this documentary film and looking at the first before-and-after image of a glacier, the realization settled in. Global warming is a very real thing and had already caused so much damage to incredible natural structures.
Another reason why the image stood out is that I knew that I wasn't ever going to see the beautiful glaciers ever again. I will never get the chance to see the beauty of the glaciers in their prime form. One of my goals in my life was to see the world's wonders. Go out and see what nature has preserved and has to offer. I wanted to travel the world and see all the beautiful things it has to offer. However, seeing that global warming had caused glamourous glaciers to be destroyed and withered away, anger and despair settled into me. I will now never be able to see the glaciers in their pristine form ever again in my lifetime.
It also occurred to me that global warming will not stop at the glaciers, global warming will affect all of nature. This further puts me in despair that I will never get to see the beauties that nature has to offer when there is still global warming in the world. Every minute, every second that passes by, nature itself has changed and I won't ever see nature in its original form. The best thing that I can get is an image from google.
The one thing that you can get out of this is global warming is real. It's occurring all around us and change will continue until we find a solid solution to fix it. Glaciers have already drastically changed due to global warming and the rest of nature is next. If people want to see nature's beauty, they need to work towards fixing global warming first. Before global warming destroys and takes all of nature's beauty away.
